The Episcopal Academy seeks an experienced and dynamic Lower School Art Teacher to join our vibrant arts faculty. This role is ideal for a passionate educator who values creative exploration, student-centered learning, and collaboration within a thriving PreK–12 independent school community.
What You Will Do
The Lower School Art Teacher designs and delivers a developmentally appropriate, engaging visual arts program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. The ideal candidate fosters curiosity, builds foundational skills, and creates a joyful, studio-based environment centered on exploration, observation, and artistic growth across a range of media, including drawing, painting, clay, and age-appropriate woodworking.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach Lower School visual art classes introducing diverse materials, techniques, and artistic concepts
- Design and implement curriculum aligned with Lower School philosophy and departmental goals
- Cultivate an inclusive classroom where students feel safe to experiment and develop their creative voice
- Develop students' fine motor skills, visual literacy, and confidence through hands-on learning
- Assess student growth and communicate progress clearly with students and families
- Collaborate with Arts Department colleagues and across divisions to ensure curricular alignment
- Contribute to exhibitions, displays, and school-wide events celebrating student work
- Participate actively in Lower School meetings, events, and community initiatives
About You
The ideal candidate for the Lower School Art Teacher at The Episcopal Academy will possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Studio Art (BFA/BA) or Art Education. An active studio practice and commitment to artistic growth (MFA or MA in Studio Art or related field preferred)
- Demonstrated experience teaching visual art at the elementary level
- Strong studio background across a range of media and materials
- Excellent classroom management skills rooted in warmth, structure, and clear expectations.
- Commitment to professional growth, collaboration, and inclusive teaching practices
- Enthusiasm for working with young children in a mission-driven school environment
