Job Summary:

The Sales Business Development Manager is responsible for driving dealership revenue by leading all inbound and outbound lead management, appointment-setting strategy, and digital sales performance while maintaining accountability across the sales and BDC teams. This role blends traditional desk management with high-level CRM oversight, ensuring rapid lead response, disciplined follow-up, strong appointment show rates, and consistent closing performance. This position is also responsible for the appraisal, purchase, reconditioning, display, and merchandising of the new vehicle inventory.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Forecasts goals and objectives for sales, gross, and key expenses on a monthly and an annual basis.
  • Hires, trains, motivates, counsels, and monitors the performance of all sales employees. Including training sales team daily, role-play, product demonstrations and product quizzes to ensure sales representatives are well versed in the sales process and manufacturer product knowledge.
  • Lead and manage all inbound and outbound sales leads (internet, phone, third-party, OEM, social media).
  • Drive appointment-setting strategy to achieve targeted show rates.
  • Hire, train, coach, and hold BDC and sales staff accountable to daily activity metrics (calls, texts, emails, follow-up).
  • Oversee CRM integrity including lead response time, follow-up cadence, and pipeline management.
  • Develop and enforce structured phone scripts and digital communication templates to maximize engagement.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPI): appointment set %, show %, close %, gross per unit.
  • Manage digital marketing conversion strategy in partnership with President/GM and marketing vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with OEM lead handling standards and response requirements.
  • Track lost lead analysis and implement recovery campaigns.
  • Maintain high CSI and online reputation management through proactive follow-up.
  • Forecast monthly sales pipeline based on appointment activity and lead trends.
  • Works with salespeople on programs that will increase the new-car gross and Finance and Insurance penetration.
  • Develops monthly incentive programs along with the President and General Manager and other managers.
  • Completes commission sheets and turns into accounting office in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Determine vehicle purchase terms, payment, interest, and trade values to customers following guarantee guidelines.
  • Secure financing for customers by utilizing professional relationships with lenders and working with them to get the best financing available.
  • Submit deals to bank electronically using appropriate dealer system (where applicable). Coordinate dealer trade requests.
  • Performs all other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum 3–5 years automotive sales experience, with at least 1–2 years in a BDC or internet sales leadership role.
  • Experience launching or restructuring a BDC department from the ground up required.
  • Proven track record of hitting or exceeding sales and appointment KPIs (appointment set, show rate, close rate).
  • Strong CRM proficiency with ability to audit and enforce process compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Data-driven mindset with ability to analyze reports, identify trends, and adjust strategy quickly.
  • Advanced communication skills (phone, email, text, digital platforms) with script development experience.
  • Strong understanding and experience managing third party lead providers (OEM, Third-Party sites, Social, Website chat)
  • Ability to manage pipeline forecasting and inventory alignment to maximize gross and turn.
  • High level of organization and time management, capable of handling high lead volume.
  • Strong customer experience focus with proven ability to maintain high CSI and online reputation scores.
  • Experience using AI-driven communication tools, texting automation or CRM workflow automation.
  • Strong understanding of digital retail platforms.
  • Proven track record of exceeding customer expectations and financial projections.
  • Strong computer aptitude, specifically with dealership management systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • A Pennsylvania state sales license must be maintained.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • All necessary factory training must be maintained.
  • Manufacturer certification must be maintained at the minimum level.
  • Travel to other company locations along with our manufacturer’s training and other relevant training courses required.
