Nuclear NDT Level II Field Specialist
Nuclear NDT Level II Field Specialist
Picture a crisp fall outage at a nuclear plant: you arrive on site, rally the crew, and begin a full day of ultrasonic and visual examinations. You interpret indications against ASME Section XI requirements, document every finding with precision, and brief the customer on status and next steps. Back at our Waltz Mill facility in Madison, PA, you refine inspection procedures, craft examination plans, and prepare for the next mobilization. This is the rhythm of the Nuclear NDT Level II Field Specialist—hands-on, customer-facing, and quality-driven.
Your Impact
- Perform non-destructive examinations in accordance with written procedures; evaluate results against applicable standards and specifications across nuclear and non‑nuclear applications.
- Step into a project supervisor role during customer outages—coordinate day-to-day site activities, ensure exams are executed safely and efficiently, and provide clear, timely status reports to the client.
- Advance toward NDE Level III certification in multiple methods while contributing to the development and continual improvement of techniques and procedures.
Where You’ll Work and Report
- Primary work location: Waltz Mill facility, Madison, PA.
- Reports to: Manager of NDE Programs.
What You’ll Do
- Investigate and interpret industry codes, standards, and procedures to meet customer and regulatory expectations.
- Develop new inspection approaches and refine existing techniques for both nuclear and non‑nuclear sectors.
- Lead small teams and mentor Trainees and Level I/II personnel; if you’re earlier in your journey, embrace mentorship and professional growth.
- Prepare field projects by building procedures and examination plans tailored to the NDE scope.
- Engage in performance-based training to earn and maintain certifications and stay current with emerging technologies.
- Complete safety training to work in hazardous environments; operate required safety systems and equipment.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot field service equipment at customer sites, including NDE technologies, automated systems, and computer networks.
- Deliver high-quality work within qualified procedures and guidelines; capture and manage all quality-related documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with peers, supervisors, contractors, customers, and partner teams—and demonstrate strong customer sensitivity.
- Travel as needed, maintain Unescorted Access at Nuclear Power Plants, and work with hazardous materials in accordance with training and procedures.
Travel
Expect primary travel during spring and fall outage seasons, with project assignments typically 1–3 weeks and periodic off‑peak travel.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of relevant experience in NDT/NDE.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience inspecting nuclear and/or non‑nuclear power plants or related facilities to recognized industry standards.
- Ability to certify to an employer-based written practice compliant with ASNT CP‑189 and ASME Section XI; multi‑method capability in UT, VT‑1/2/3, MT, PT, and ET.
- Working knowledge of the ASME Code.
- Willingness and ability to travel during peak outage seasons and periodically off‑peak.
