Normandeau Associates, Inc., a 100% employee-owned environmental consulting firm specializing in water and natural resources issues, has positions available for temporary Field Clerks at our Peach Bottom, PA office for an angler creel survey on the Delaware River and tributaries. Survey territory extends from the Delaware Water Gap toll bridge in East Stroudsburg, PA through Trenton, New Jersey to the Philadelphia area. The survey is currently set to run from mid-March to mid-July but could extend into the fall.
Position Summary
The Field Clerk will conduct a standardized survey to support fisheries monitoring and resource management programs. This position involves interviewing recreational anglers at public access points, collecting data, and recording that data into an electronic form on a tablet which will be provided. Clerks will work independently in the field and represent Normandeau Associates while interacting with members of the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct in-person interviews with recreational anglers at boat launches, piers, and shoreline fishing areas using a standardized survey protocol
- Record fishing effort, catch information, and other survey data using a tablet-based electronic data collection system
- Examine, count, measure, and identify fish species
- Handle fish in a safe and humane manner consistent with survey procedures
- Follow assigned daily routes and sampling schedules
- Upload and submit completed field data accurately and on time
- Communicate professionally with the public and answer general questions about the survey
- Attend occasional team meetings and training sessions
- Follow all company health, safety, and fieldwork procedures
- Maintain issued field equipment in good working condition
- Represent the company professionally while working at public access locations

Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily outdoors at public access sites
- Regular exposure to variable weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Early morning or afternoon/evening shifts up to 8 hours
- Weekend and holiday work required during the survey season
- Travel between multiple field locations within a day following assigned routes
Skills
- Ability to identify local fish species and follow measurement procedures
- Ability to follow standardized survey protocols and scripts
- Strong attention to detail and accurate data recording
- Comfortable approaching and speaking with members of the public
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Basic familiarity with smartphones or tablets
- Professional and courteous communication skills
- Ability to manage time and complete assigned sampling routes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to approximately 5 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions
- Ability to handle fish and biological samples
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school graduate or G.E.D.
License/Certification
Valid driver’s license required.
Additional Requirements
Reliable transportation to travel between assigned survey locations (mileage and tolls reimbursed)
Authorization to work in the United States
Coursework or a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, marine science, fisheries, or related field is preferred but not required.
