Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Location: Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania 18702 (Northeastern PA healthcare jobs)
• Facility Setting: Hospital – General Care, Long-Term Care (LTC), and Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) units
• Assignment Type: Travel Respiratory Therapist
• Start Date: August 25, 2025
• End Date: November 23, 2025
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Hours per Week: 36 hours
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts, including every other weekend and holiday
• Schedule: 3-12 hour shifts per week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2020–$2070

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania Respiratory Therapist license (PA RRT jobs)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
• S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (NICU experience preferred)
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and preceptor skills

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate patients' respiratory care needs; develop individualized respiratory care plans
• Perform and document patient assessments and therapeutic interventions, including aerosolized medication administration, secretion management, pulmonary volume expansion, and oxygen therapy
• Initiate and manage mechanical ventilators (conventional and high-frequency) according to hospital protocols
• Maintain and care for artificial airways; assist with airway management procedures
• Educate patients and families on disease management and respiratory health (age-specific education)
• Assist with intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients
• Respond to acute airway emergencies and set up non-invasive monitoring equipment
• Collect and process arterial blood gas (ABG) samples
• Support discharge planning for patients requiring respiratory-related durable medical equipment (DME)
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and hospital protocols
• Serve as Shift Coordinator (charge respiratory therapist) after one year of employment
• Assist with fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedures and placement of invasive monitoring lines
• Precept new staff and students during clinical rotations
