Service Technician

This position is located in Monessen, PA . This position is responsible for maintaining all systems on the company’s towboats, safely and efficiently, to minimize downtime and to provide repair service to all supporting equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to communicate effectively
• Provides the daily routine maintenance for the safe operation of company towboats
• Performs the periodic maintenance at scheduled intervals on main propulsion engines and gearboxes, and service generators
• Lubricates the components such as rudders, winches, chocks, and couplings
• Complies with corporate and governmental policies. Works with various agencies. Associated tasks can relate to Annual Coast Guard Inspections, DER & DEP regulations, and HAZMAT training
• Performs or coordinates the weekly fueling of the towboats, including taking on of lube oils and supplies as necessary, and the removal of waste products responsibly
• Drives to and from boat locations safely and responsibly
• Practices good housekeeping in engine rooms, shop area, storeroom, and all related work areas
• Overhauls some system components to maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
• Assembles air and liquid conveying hoses
• Maintains support equipment such as gas and electric barge pumps, grease pumps, air pumps, life boats and davits, and the oil/water separator at W.E.L.
• Maintains marine sanitation devices, commodes, sinks, showers, water pumps, and related plumbing. Repairs/replaces HVAC and refrigeration units
• Performs welding, burning and fabrication of repair parts when necessary
• Replaces window and door glass
• Assists divers when providing underwater repairs and/or inspections
• Assists supervisors and sometimes advises on certain situations

Experience

• A combination of Electrical, Diesel, Welding, and Electronics experience is a plus
• 2 years or more of experience is preferred, but not required, in tow boat operations and maintenance
• Specialized training or certification is a plus
• Maintenance and repair experience, required

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED, required
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
• Reliable transportation
• Regular and punctual attendance
• Employee must clearly, effectively, and appropriately communicate in written, electronic and verbal forms
• Compliance with company policies, procedures and safety standard
• Must perform in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations
• Must be capable of effectively, efficiently and accurately performing duties
• Demonstrates strong ability to learn and apply new traits to assigned tasks
• Possessing initiative to follow through, overcome obstacles, and meet objectives
• Must be able to successfully pass a post offer drug test and background check
• Must be able to successfully complete industry approved training courses
• Must be able to work safely and effectively as part of a team or independently
• Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship

JOB SCHEDULE AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed or as schedule requires (subject to applicant’s religious practices)
• This position is primarily a dayshift position.
• On-call responsibilities as needed on nights and weekends
• Must be capable of safely working in extreme hot and cold conditions and wet, rainy conditions
• Ability to lift floor-to-waist and waist-to-overhead
• Ability to push/pull as needed
• Standing, bending, step climbing, crawling and working overhead
• Ability to perform heavy labor and lift 50+ pounds as needed
