Position Overview

The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate delivery of building materials to customer jobsites and facilities. This role plays a critical part in ensuring customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and compliance with all federal, state, and company safety standards.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and experienced in operating commercial vehicles in construction and jobsite environments. This position represents Reed Building Supply directly to customers and must demonstrate professionalism, safety awareness, and strong communication at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery & Transportation Operations

  • Safely operate CDL-qualified trucks to transport building materials to residential and commercial job sites.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload materials in accordance with DOT regulations and company safety procedures.
  • Perform multiple daily deliveries according to assigned routes and delivery schedules.
  • Verify delivery contents against shipping documents and obtain customer acknowledgments as required.
  • Ensure materials are delivered accurately, damage-free, and in a manner that meets customer expectations.

Vehicle Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete all related documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, hours-of-service requirements, and company policies.
  • Report vehicle defects, maintenance needs, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Keep assigned vehicles clean, organized, and in safe operating condition.

Customer Interaction & Service

  • Serve as a professional, courteous representative of Reed Building Supply at customer locations and jobsites.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding delivery timing, access requirements, and jobsite conditions.
  • Escalate delivery issues, delays, or customer concerns to operations or dispatch in a timely manner.

Warehouse & Yard Support

  • Assist with loading and staging materials in coordination with warehouse and yard staff.
  • Secure loads properly using straps, chains, and other approved methods.
  • Support inventory accuracy by verifying materials loaded and delivered.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately complete delivery tickets, logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
  • Use company systems or mobile devices to record deliveries, mileage, and service notes as required.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse, sales, and operations teams to ensure smooth delivery execution.
  • Support special delivery requests, jobsite constraints, and priority orders when required.

Other Duties

  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with special projects or operational initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid CDL (Class A or B, as required) with a clean driving record.
  • 2+ years of commercial driving experience preferred; building materials or construction delivery experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, boom trucks, or other material-handling equipment (certifications required).
  • Ability to lift, move, and secure heavy materials in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong reliability, time-management, and attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor and strong customer service skills.
