Project Accountant
QES is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support our day-to-day financial operations. This role involves a wide range of accounting duties, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, financial reporting, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the financial integrity of our growing organization. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction or engineering industry and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Manage the end-to-end project accounting process, including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and variance analysis.
- Ensure accurate and timely project setup, including contract terms, billing structures, and revenue recognition policies.
- Review and approve project-related billings, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
- Monitor project profitability, identify potential risks, and recommend corrective actions to project teams.
- Prepare and analyze project financial reports, providing insights on project performance, budget variances, and profitability trends.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable industry regulations.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure adherence to financial reporting standards.
- Work closely with project managers to develop and maintain project budgets and forecasts.
- Analyze project cash flow and revenue projections, ensuring financial goals are met.
- Support executive leadership with accurate and timely financial data for decision-making.
- Oversee project-related accounts receivable (A/R) and accounts payable (A/P) processes, ensuring timely and accurate billing and payments.
- Collaborate with the finance team to resolve billing discrepancies and manage collections efforts.
- Develop and implement the best practices in project accounting processes, improving efficiency and accuracy.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure data integrity.
- Supervise and mentor project accounting staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Act as a liaison between project teams, finance, and senior leadership to ensure alignment on financial objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive project accounting experience, preferably in the construction, engineering, or consulting industry.
- Prior experience managing project accounting functions for large-scale, multi-state projects is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of construction project accounting principles, including percentage-of-completion (POC) and work-in-progress (WIP) accounting.
- Proficiency in project management software and accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Deltek, Viewpoint, or similar platforms).
- Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze complex financial data.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively with project teams and leadership.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
