Join our dedicated team as a Direct Support Professional in Tobyhanna, PA, providing compassionate, person-centered care to individuals with diverse needs. As a vital member of our caregiving team, you will promote independence, ensure safety, and support daily living activities in a nurturing environment. This position is scheduled for 70 hours per pay period, allowing you to build strong relationships and deliver consistent care.

Duties

  • Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting to promote independence and dignity.
  • Monitor patient health by taking vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature; observe and document changes in condition or behavior.
  • Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with cooking while adhering to dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Provide emotional support through active listening, companionship, and engaging in recreational activities tailored to each individual's interests.
  • Operate specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident lifts safely during transfers to prevent injury.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks including cleaning patient areas and common spaces.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals on care plans, progress notes, and documentation to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Engage in patient observation for signs of distress or deterioration; report findings promptly to supervisors or medical staff.
  • Support residents' participation in community outings or social activities to foster community integration and quality of life.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care settings is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of caring for individuals with developmental disabilities, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or other neurological conditions.
  • Certifications such as CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid are required; additional training in HIPAA compliance is essential.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects safely using proper techniques; physical stamina for long shifts involving standing and walking.
  • Strong observational skills for monitoring patient health status and behavioral changes.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and families while maintaining confidentiality.
