Civil Engineer
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Civil Engineer to join our growing team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. SWCA is seeking a skilled Professional Civil Engineer with robust project management capabilities and expertise in civil site design, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, project narratives and calculations and hydrologic and hydraulic calculations. The ideal candidate will have experience leading engineering projects, managing and mentoring junior staff, engaging in business development activities, and preparation of scoping and budgeting of projects. Collaboration with multiple disciplines and stakeholders, including CAD designers, GIS analysts, environmental biologists, cultural resources, sub-contractors, regulatory agencies, municipalities, and clients is a key aspect of this role.
This is a full-time, regular (with benefits), salaried position offering benefits and flexibility for hybrid/remote work arrangements for qualified candidates in the Pittsburgh area.
What you will accomplish:- Lead engineering design and development of permit and construction documents and drawings.
- Manage project scope, budget, and schedule to ensure successful project delivery.
- Support engineering needs across regional SWCA offices, providing technical expertise and guidance.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to balance workloads and ensure project schedules and budgets are met.
- Conduct technical reviews of project deliverables to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Assist with Quality Control and Quality Assurance processes.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and meeting their project needs.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through client relationships, networking, and collaboration with other SWCA offices and disciplines.
- Take responsibility for team safety, develop safety plans (when applicable), and anticipate potential safety hazards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Seven (7) years of experience in civil engineering.
- Professional Engineer License in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain via reciprocity within six months.
- Flexibility to travel, including short-term overnight stays for various project related tasks.
Preferred Qualification:
- Prior work experience in Ohio and/or West Virginia.
- PE Licensing in Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
- Experience supporting proposal development, business development, and client management.

SWCA is committed to salary equity and transparency. In alignment with this commitment, we post good faith pay ranges in all job postings. An employee in this Pittsburgh, PA based position can expect a salary of $93,475/year to $120,182/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
