Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000

A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant's education and experience, all relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Scientist, under the supervision of Dr. Young-Jin Son in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's Center for Neural Development and Repair (CNDR), will serve as a lab manager/technician in a neurobiology laboratory. The lab employs mouse genetics, molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches to study and restore damaged peripheral and spinal cord nerve connections.

Primary responsibilities include mouse genotyping and general laboratory management, with active participation in ongoing research projects. The successful candidate will perform experiments, assist other researchers, and contribute to data collection and analysis. Prior experience with mice, molecular, or biochemical techniques is strongly preferred.

Required Education and Experience :

* A bachelor's degree is required with two years of experience

* A minimum of 6 months of laboratory experience involving mice.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience :

* Master's Degree

Required Skills and Abilities:

* Working knowledge of applicable computer software and applicable professional principles.

* Strong organization and record-keeping skills to record experiment results and analyze data

* Effective communication skills

* Hands-on experience with mouse handling, Western blotting, and RT-PCR

* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

* Excellent organization and communication skills.

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Duties:

* Execute experimental protocols, maintain records of all experiments, and ensure equipment is properly maintained. Collect and organize data using statistical software packages.

* Conduct research, analyze results, and prepare findings for presentation at meetings, conferences, research reports, manuscripts, and papers.

* Make moderately complex decisions and resolve research problems within established protocols, requiring some independent judgment.

* Order supplies, examine instrument malfunctions, and assist in their repair as needed.

* Ensure smooth daily operation of the laboratory, including mouse genotyping, ordering, inventory management, and compliance with safety/biosafety regulations.

* Perform standard laboratory techniques (e.g., histology, molecular biology, biochemistry, mouse surgery, and/or behavioral assays).

* Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data; prepare figures and present findings at lab meetings.

* Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and notebooks.

* Assist students and postdocs in conducting experiments and provide technical support.

* Train and mentor new lab members in protocols and equipment use.

* Contribute to lab meetings, project planning, and scientific discussions.

* Assist with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations by providing data and methodological details.

* Performs other duties as assigned.
