Pay Rate: $31.00/hr
Start Date: 2 weeks from Offer
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide nursing care and medical support for at-risk youth ages 16–18 in a residential educational setting. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN will support daily medical operations, administer medications, conduct sick call assessments, monitor student wellness, maintain accurate medical records, and assist with health education initiatives. This position requires adherence to HIPAA regulations, infection control standards, and safety procedures.
SCHEDULE:
- 1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- Required availability on Saturdays and Sundays
- Additional weekdays may be required as needed when RN or LPN coverage is unavailable
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Residential educational setting serving at-risk youth
- Supports approximately 100–140 cadets ages 16–18
- Fast-paced healthcare and educational environment
- Requires strong communication, professionalism, and confidentiality
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Nursing Care:
- Provide daily nursing care under the supervision of an RN
- Conduct daily sick call and make skilled nursing decisions regarding medical concerns
- Monitor cadet health conditions using nursing knowledge, medical terminology, and diagnostic equipment
- Identify infestations such as lice or scabies and initiate treatment protocols
- Respond to student emergencies and provide appropriate care
- Monitor vital signs including pulse, blood pressure, respiration, and temperature
- Observe cadets following illness or injury to determine readiness for activities
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, reports, and progress notes
- Ensure confidentiality and HIPAA compliance are maintained at all times
- Assist with wellness checks and physical assessments for participation eligibility
- Verify insurance coverage and medical documentation when required
Treatment & Medication Administration:
- Administer medications in compliance with physician orders and medical provider instructions
- Maintain medication administration records accurately
- Assist with emergency medical treatment in coordination with an RN
- Coordinate care between healthcare providers, parents/guardians, and staff as appropriate
- Recommend medical referrals when necessary
Health Education & Support:
- Assist with planning and implementing health and hygiene curriculum components
- Prepare educational materials and training plans related to wellness and hygiene
- Serve as a health resource for staff and cadets
- Provide first aid instruction for cadets and staff
- Support infectious disease prevention strategies as directed by an RN
- Coordinate telemedicine procedures during non-standard hours when necessary
Administrative & Operational Duties:
- Inventory and order medical supplies as needed
- Maintain safe and sanitary patient environments
- Attend conferences, meetings, seminars, and mandatory training programs
- Complete all required competencies and continuing education requirements
- Report workplace injuries, incidents, or safety hazards immediately
- Follow universal precautions and properly utilize PPE including gloves, masks, gowns, goggles, and face shields
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license required
- Current CPR Certification required
- Current First Aid and Safety Certification through the American Red Cross required
- Ability to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Knowledge of nursing practices, medication administration, and medical terminology
- Experience working with adolescents, behavioral health, residential care, or school health settings preferred
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Experience using diagnostic and medical equipment preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies or urgent medical situations
- Comfortable working in a residential educational environment with at-risk youth
