Duties and Responsibilities of a Batch Plant Operator

The Batch Plant Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the concrete batch plant in our climate-controlled facility. The Batch Plant Operator will weigh and mix concrete materials. He or she will handle material and operate equipment in order to load, batch, and test concrete products to meet plan specifications.

In addition to the operation of the batch plant, the Batch Plant Operator is responsible for essential housekeeping and the maintenance and repair of the plant and surrounding workspace to ensure safe operation.

  • Practices safe work procedures as based on Brayman Precast's safety programs.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in compliance with the Brayman Precast Quality System Manual.
  • Consistently demonstrates team support of Brayman Precast's commitment to our customers for Quality, Value and Service.
  • Actively supports and implements the approved Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Procedures Manuals.
  • Understand the mechanics of the batch plant and the batch plant equipment.
  • Perform daily batch plant inspection prior to start of batching operations.
  • Perform daily / weekly preventative maintenance tasks as required - greasing, clean admix lines etc.
  • Efficiently run the batch plant to produce concrete mixes for daily production.
  • Make quick decisions on batch-to-batch material and/or moisture adjustments to compliment the execution of the Daily Production Plan.
  • Monitor batch plant equipment function during batching for proper and consistent operation.
  • Identify and report on areas of batch plant operations that need preventative maintenance.
  • Adjust mixes and mix designs through the batch plant computer terminal for air content, admix dosage, moistures and cold and hot weather concreting.
  • Manipulate and log changes to materials, mix designs and mix design parameters in batch plant computer.
  • Accurately record and log daily batching operations and generate end of day batching reports/printouts.
  • Coordinate disposal and/or use of scrap or excess concrete in storage/blocking cubes.
  • Thoroughly clean the mixer and batching equipment after daily batching operations are complete.
  • Coordinate, order, and log incoming aggregate, cement, and admixture deliveries in the batch plant computer.
  • Maintain and report on current cement, aggregate and admixture levels.
  • Coordinate emptying and switching of materials in aggregate bins.
  • Assist in batch plant quarterly and bi-annual equipment calibrations.
  • Perform daily adjustments and quarterly moisture probe calibrations.
  • Assist in concrete mix design development through plant trial batching.
  • Perform plastic concrete slump and air concrete test, when necessary, in coordination with or in absence of Quality Control personnel.
  • Perform and record aggregate moisture readings, when necessary, in coordination with or in absence of Quality Control personnel.
  • Maintain a clean, organized batch plant control room and area around batch plant - i.e., floor, platform, bins.

Qualifications:

  • Less than a high school education is acceptable with GED; or up to one-month work related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must exhibit adequate communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to add and subtract five-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Must have the ability to follow verbal and written communications and utilize good decision-making skills.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Must have visual abilities that include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust visual focus.
  • Must be able to wear personal protection equipment, such as earplugs, safety glasses, and steel toe boots, etc.

Safety Sensitive Position:

This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work in a heavy manufacturing facility with various safety hazards which are potentially life-threatening to the employee and Team Members without proper safety precautions. This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. Team Members will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies due to these safety risks.
