This position is a key member of our large team and as a member of the team is responsible for supporting the basic philosophy of Penn Children's Center: "Learning through Play." Job Description Responsibilities:
- Assist the teaching staff, in any manner required, in order to foster the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of each child.
- Enable and assist the teaching staff in guiding, and supervising children 12 weeks to 5 years in accordance with NAEYC, Keystone Stars, and DHS guidelines.
- Assist teaching staff in carrying out daily activities and lesson plans according to the HighScope curriculum.
- Arrange and maintain educational materials and equipment.
- Operate, and participate, in an environment that is grounded in respect and believes in the "art of the possible" and the "power of positivity."
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate is highly preferred. In the absence of a high school diploma or general educational development certificate a minimum of an 8th grade education and 2 years of experience with children.
- Strong communication, collaboration and nurturing skills.
- Evidence of initiative and adaptability to change.
- Flexibility to work during Center operating hours as required to ensure appropriate service provision and to meet licensing ratio (i.e. normally between 7:30am-6:00pm).
- Experience working directly with families.
- Skills in language, art, music or drama highly regarded.
- The ability to maintain a positive attitude and demeanor, even when things don't go well.
- A comprehensive background check will be undertaken for this position.
