Reliability and Test Engineer
Ghost Robotics is the industry leader in legged robotic systems that not only help our customers solve complex operational, national security, and technical challenges to save lives, reduce harm and improve outcomes.
This position will be reporting to the Reliability Manager and will be working closely with a fast-moving team delivering next generation legged robotic solutions to our customers worldwide.? To support our product development and quality assurance efforts, we’re looking for an engineer who thrives on hands-on testing, detailed root cause analysis, and thorough documentation. In this role, you’ll work across product lines and engineering disciplines to evaluate system performance, uncover failure modes, and enhance the reliability of our advanced robotic platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Reliability Growth : Lead Ghost Robotics’ Reliability Growth Program by developing and managing composite use cases that simulate real-world operating conditions to validate product performance in the field.
- Plan and Execute Tests : Design, implement, and conduct reliability and functional tests across mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems to assess durability, performance, and robustness.
- Document with Precision : Create and maintain detailed documentation for all test activities—including test plans, procedures, setups, results, and post-test observations—to ensure traceability and support thorough root cause analysis.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with design, systems, and software teams to develop unit, integration, and regression tests for both new and existing hardware/software platforms.
- Failure Analysis & Resolution : Lead investigations of test and field failures by identifying root causes and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive corrective actions.
- Test Infrastructure Development : Contribute to the design and development of custom test fixtures and jigs to improve testing efficiency, consistency, and repeatability.
Requirements
- A meticulous, detail-driven approach to testing and documentation; comfort maintaining structured test logs and reproducible test procedures.
- Hands-on experience designing and building test fixtures (e.g. with 3D printing, basic mechanical assembly).
- Strong familiarity with Linux environments for test execution and logging.
- Exposure to Android OS and Android-based devices.
- Familiarity with sensing systems such as IMUs, GPS, LiDAR, and depth cameras.
- Experience handling and testing lithium-based battery systems.
- Demonstrated skill in electrical debugging and basic circuit analysis.
- Working knowledge of Git for version control and test tracking.
- Understanding of various communication protocols (e.g., WiFi, LAN) and associated hardware.
- Ability to read and interpret C/C++ for understanding embedded behavior.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting tests, logging data, or automating setups.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with BLDC motor systems and associated control methods.
- Experience with mechanical assembly and usage of standard hand tools.
- Exposure to STM32 or similar microcontroller platforms.
- Experience working with NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded platforms.
- Experience with UAV or UGV systems.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field required
- Master’s degree preferred and may substitute for equivalent experience in reliability or test engineering
- Coursework or training in reliability engineering, systems engineering, or statistical analysis is a plus

Philadelphia, PA area (no remote candidates considered at this time).
