Utility Machine Operator 6 (North East)
SUMMARY: Operate a variety of machines and equipment to process components and assemblies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform boring operations on Hi and Low bay Commutators. Perform turning and slotting operations on Commutators in Hi bay. Machine and tape grooves in glass bound Commutators. Process shrink ring commutators including application of mica, installation of shrink rings and assembly on armature. Work to close tolerances and finish specifications requiring skill and general knowledge of machining techniques. Use micrometers, Vernier’s, scales, protractors, calipers, surface gauges, dial bore gauges, dial indicators, and other equipment as needed to set up machine and ensure part conformity. Assist in training whenever needed or required. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
MATHEMATICAL and/or COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Knowledge of computer operation and related software required.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Operate forklift truck (will be licensed in accordance with OSHA power industrial truck operator requirements (beneficial).

The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and loud continuous noise. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Detect quantity discrepancies, defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to proper supervision. Will complete data transactions where necessary. Perform changing lubrication, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment when necessary. Will maintain a clean and orderly work area at all times. A working knowledge of all job-related Quality Management System operating procedures and work instructions is required.
