Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Intermodal Truck Driver to transport cargo between rail yards, ports, and customer facilities using both drayage and over-the-road routes. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of intermodal operations, excellent time management, and a commitment to safety and compliance.

Responsibilities
Transport intermodal containers between rail yards, shipping docks, terminals, and customer facilities
Safely operate single- or tandem-axle tractors, sleeper cabs, and chassis coupled with containers
Inspect and perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections; report defects and necessary maintenance
Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FMCSA, DOT hours-of-service)
Plan routes and meet delivery windows; manage logs and delivery paperwork
Secure cargo using appropriate lashing, chaining, or mandatory container locking devices; verify tare and container IDs
Utilize intermodal equipment, including chassis, convertible/triaxle chassis, and wheel- or rail-mounted containers
Communicate with dispatch, customers, and yard coordinators to coordinate pickups and deliveries
Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel, maintenance, and hours of service
Complete accuracy in bills of lading, delivery receipts, and other documentation
Demonstrate safe driving practices, including adherence to speed limits, weather conditions, and load securement
Perform basic preventive maintenance and fuel management; report maintenance issues promptly
Follow company safety programs and participate in trainings
Represent the company professionally with customers and at facilities

Qualifications
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate class (e.g., Class A) and endorsements (e.g., Tanker if applicable, HazMat if required by customer)
Minimum 1–2 years of intermodal, drayage, or long-haul trucking experience
Clean driving record with no major violations in the past 3–5 years
Knowledge of intermodal terminals, rail yard procedures, and port access rules
Proficiency with Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and Hours of Service (HOS) compliance
Ability to read maps, use GPS, and plan efficient routes
Basic mechanical aptitude for pre-trip inspections and minor maintenance
Good communication skills and customer service orientation
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks related to cargo securement
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as required
Background check and drug testing as per company policy

Preferred Skills and Experience
Prior experience with chassis and container handling systems
Experience with double/triple trailers or specialized intermodal equipment
Knowledge of dangerous goods regulations (if HazMat endorsement is held or required)
Familiarity with rail yard and port credentialing processes

Work Environment
Primarily in intermodal yards, docks, rail terminals, and roadways
Exposure to varying weather conditions; long hours may be required
Physically demanding with frequent loading/unloading tasks and vehicle inspections
Potential for tight delivery windows and traffic delays

Schedule and Compensation
Typical Schedule: Full-time, may include nights, weekends, and holidays
Compensation: Hourly or mileage-based pay, plus accessorial pay (e.g., detention, layover, per diem)

Equipment and Tools Provided
Company-provided tractor and intermodal chassis
Onboard telematics and routing software
Safety equipment (CDL insurance, reflective gear, PPE as required)

Safety and Compliance
Commitment to DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety policies
Regular safety training and compliance checks
Incident reporting protocols and corrective action measures
