Worship Music Director

Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in York, Pennsylvania is seeking a part-time Worship Music Director to lead our vibrant and collaborative music ministry. This position provides leadership for the Worship Choir, Praise Team and coordinates music for weekly worship and seasonal services throughout the year alongside the Pastor and organist.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead weekly Worship Choir rehearsals and music for Sunday worship
• Provide musical leadership and coordination for the Praise Team
• Openness to direct the Hand Chime ensemble
• Prepare music for seasonal worship services including Advent Cantata, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter
• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor, accompanists, and worship planning team, including staff meetings
• Recruit and support volunteer musicians
• Coordinate summer worship music, including guest musicians and ensembles
• Maintain music library and distribute materials
• Support a positive, welcoming rehearsal environment
• Substitution for organ/piano accompanist when our organist is on vacation, not required but preferred

Qualifications

• Experience directing choirs and volunteer musicians
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and volunteers
• Organizational and communication skills
• Comfort working with a variety of musical styles appropriate for congregational worship
• Experience with praise teams or contemporary worship music is helpful but not required
• Background clearances required (Pennsylvania)

Position Details

Part-time, approximately 10 hours per week (seasonal flexibility)
Year-round position with 4 weeks’ vacation (including up to 4 Sundays)
Salary commensurate with experience
Expected presence for major worship seasons
