Construction Superintendent

Job Description

The Superintendent is the senior field leader responsible for day-to-day execution of all on-site work. The Superintendent ensures that work is built per plans and specifications, trades are coordinated with precision, and risks are surfaced early to protect Post Brothers’ standards, schedule, and cost performance.

The Superintendent is responsible for the following responsibilities:

  1. Adherence to Plans & Specs - Ensure absolute compliance with construction documents, approved drawings, and project specifications always:
    • Confirm all field work matches design intent and contract requirements
    • Prevent unauthorized deviations and enforce proper installation standards
    • Ensure crews and subcontractors are always working from the latest issued documents
  1. Quality Control - Maintain uncompromising quality across all trades and scopes:
    • Reject incomplete, non-conforming, or low-quality workmanship immediately
    • Identify issues early to prevent rework, delays, and downstream cost
    • Uphold Post Brothers’ expectation of precision, durability, and excellence in finish
    • Ensure subcontractor means and methodology are appropriate and aligned with project requirements and schedule sequence
  1. Schedule - Drive daily progress and enforce schedule discipline across all trades:
    • Critical Path Protection
  • Maintain constant awareness of the critical path and milestone requirements
  • Identify slippage early and implement corrective action immediately
  • Hold subcontractors accountable to manpower and owner/client-desired sequencing (even if uncomfortable for subs)
  • Anticipate constraints, inspections, material needs, and trade handoffs
  • Micro-Schedule Planning
  • Develop and execute detailed two-week look-ahead plans in coordination with the Senior Project Manager.
  • Communication, Escalation & Issue Anticipation
  • Surface risks early, including schedule impacts, cost exposures, quality concerns, or manpower shortfalls
  • Provide real-time field intelligence. No surprises!
  • Maintain written and verbal clarity around field progress and constraints

  1. Daily Site Logistics - Ensure logistics never become the cause of schedule delay or safety risk. Own all daily site logistics including:
    • Site access and traffic flow
    • Delivery management
    • Street closures and public right-of-way coordination
    • Temporary utilities
    • Waste management, including recycling and hazardous waste; dumpster staging and hauling schedules
    • Staging zones and laydown areas while preventing clutter, double-handling, and blocked access
    • Environmental best practices such as E&S controls, concrete and tire washout
  1. Trade Coordination & Shared Resource Management - Manage access to shared equipment and resources, such as crane time, hoists, and shared tools to ensure efficient execution. Resolve subcontractor conflicts by enforcing critical path priorities and cost effective sequencing, without allowing personal dynamics to interfere with project needs.
  1. General Labor & Cost-Effective Trade Support - Manage general laborers with a cost-first mindset. Ensure labor is deployed strategically to support schedule and site conditions, while eliminating superfluous staffing or wasteful labor spend.
  1. General Conditions, Safety & Site Excellence - Maintain exceptional general conditions during all phases of construction. Post Brothers jobsites must reflect world-class safety, curb appeal, and professionalism:
    • Maintain curb appeal and public-facing cleanliness to highest standard imaginable
    • Enforce safety protocols and proactive hazard prevention in coordination with Senior Project Manager and Safety Director
    • Protect completed work from damage, weather exposure, and trade abuse
    • Maintain organized work areas and prevent jobsite disorder
    • Always maintain inspection-ready conditions
    • Manage phased turnover and early occupancy conditions ensuring completed spaces are resident ready and separated from active construction zones.
    • In occupied or resident-facing areas, coordinate signage, access, work hours, and disruption controls to ensure resident safety and minimal disturbance. Prioritize client/owner needs over subcontractor comfort.

Critical Traits

  • Quality obsessed - Demands correct-first-time execution and refuses substandard work.
  • Cost-aware - Prevents rework, inefficiency, and avoidable waste.
  • Proactive communicator - Escalates risks early with clarity and accountability.
  • Highly disciplined with uncompromising standards - enforces site expectations and swiftly removes anyone who undermines safety, quality, or performance.
  • Owner mentality - Executes with client-first urgency, pushing beyond subcontractor comfort or industry norms to deliver the best outcome for ownership.

  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting (at least 60 lbs), climb ladders up to 24 ft, stand and walk for 8 hours, and perform other physically demanding duties as directed.
