Senior EMS Service Technician - Commercial & Industrial

MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Senior EMS (Energy Management Systems) Service Technician – Commercial & Industrial to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain energy management, electrical, and supermarket control systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This position is responsible for diagnosing electrical and control system issues, supporting refrigeration control systems, maintaining power distribution equipment, and providing technical leadership to field personnel.

The ideal candidate has strong electrical troubleshooting skills, experience working with commercial control systems, and the ability to deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain energy management systems (EMS), supermarket control systems, and related electrical equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical system components in compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system failures using a variety of electrical testing instruments.
  • Perform service, maintenance, and repairs on motors, transformers, lighting systems, generators, electrical panels, power distribution equipment, and associated electrical components.
  • Review blueprints, electrical schematics, work orders, and project specifications to determine service requirements.
  • Repair and maintain high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot, test, repair, and maintain emergency generators and electrical distribution systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and system inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Train and mentor apprentice technicians and less experienced team members.
  • Coordinate with customers, project managers, and service teams to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Document service work, maintenance activities, repairs, and recommendations accurately.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, electrical codes, company safety policies, and PPE requirements.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide emergency service support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school or technical training in Electrical Technology, Controls, or a related field preferred.
  • 4–7 years of experience as an electrician, EMS technician, controls technician, or commercial electrical service technician.
  • Experience servicing commercial electrical and control systems.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems and energy management systems (EMS).
  • Experience servicing supermarket control systems and commercial control equipment.
  • Knowledge of COâ‚‚ refrigeration components is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and applicable electrical standards.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction electrical products and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a service team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
  • Reliable attendance and strong customer service skills.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with supermarket refrigeration control systems.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS), energy management systems, or programmable controllers.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Experience working with emergency power systems and generators.
  • Electrical or controls-related certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in commercial, industrial, and retail environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely operate electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to respond to emergency service calls outside of normal business hours as part of an on-call rotation.
