A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SWIM TEAM HEAD COACH

As a Swim Team Head Coach, you ensure a positive and enriching experience for all children involved. Always alert, you provide proper supervision and discipline for the children as you "see, hear, direct, and assess." You are careful to act as a role model for the children at all times!

You are friendly and patient as you serve as a motivational figure who inspires high morale, encourages recruitment of new members, builds team cohesiveness, communicates effectively and provides positive reinforcement. As a key liaison between children, their parents, and the YMCA Aquatic Program Director, you keep this good rapport going as you communicate with parents. Parents feel good about leaving their children in your capable hands.

With enthusiasm, you plan, attend, and direct all swim team practices, including prepare and create swim practice workouts. You must arrive at minimum 15 minutes before practices to prepare for practice and inspect pool area for hazards. You are also conscientious about keeping team lists and records up to date and accurate and ensuring compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations. You train, supervise, and direct the assistant coaches, recruit and train volunteers and plan ahead for the invitational(s.)

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PART-TIME ASSISTANT TEACHER

• 1-3 years' experience in coaching swim teams.
• Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of competitive swimming.
• Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
• Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving course.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or American Red Cross certification.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen within 60 days of hire date.
• New Employee Orientation- YUSA, Mandated Reporter, and child abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date
• Strong administrative, organizational, and supervisory skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
