Director of operational
WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
The Director of Operational Excellence, while based and reporting into the SPG US organization, will play a critical role in progressing efforts in process optimization and operational excellence across both SPG US and SPG Canada. A key objective of this role will be the identification, sharing and standardization of operational excellence best practices across North America through the leadership of a network of critical process subject matter experts in finishing and packaging, sustainability and regrind processing, extrusion and forming, injection molding, blending and material handling, and controls engineering. As a direct liaison to the Central TIP Operational Excellence team, the Director of Operational excellence will develop and facilitate programs to enhance SPG knowledge base and tool utilization throughout the five pillars of operational excellence streamlining workflows, improving process efficiencies, reducing costs, and enhancing quality in manufacturing operations.
In collaboration with business and operational leaders, the Director of Operational Excellence will support both the SPG US and SPG Canada VP of Operations in developing and executing key operations strategies focused on enhancing process capability, enabling controls for critical to process parameters, assisting with the scale-up on new products and processes, driving root cause analysis for process upsets, identifying standardized operational processes, equipment and materials, and implementing operational excellence tools delivering new ways of working and providing sustained and systemic improvement in safety, quality, delivery, sustainability, and cost (SQDSC) across North America.
This role will partner with the Director of Operations Strategic Projects to ensure ability to move products seamlessly across the plant network based on optimal manufacturing site by ensuring that equipment, tooling, and materials are in place and people and processes qualified.
The role requires a collaborative leader who can partner effectively with plant management, R&D, Product Management and other functions to deliver impactful results across a diverse and complex manufacturing network. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in manufacturing operations, process improvement, engineering and development, statistical analysis, ERP/MES systems, and change management, coupled with strong team leadership and communication skills.
Essential Functions
- Standardize and optimize processes, materials and equipment across manufacturing sites to drive enhanced business performance.
- Develop and facilitate programs to enhance SPG knowledge base and tool utilization throughout the five pillars of operational excellence
- Support product scale-up and tech transfer between plants. Develop best practices and collaborate cross-functionally to drive plants and processes to full optimization.
- Create and execute a strategy to ensure sustainability targets are met.
- Build and develop a high-performing team of critical process SMEs extending a high level of collaborative expertise sharing across the team and SPG sites in North America fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree Engineering or Operations Management: required
- MS, MBA: Preferred
- Six Sigma/Lean Black Belt : Preferred
- Certified Manufacturing Engineer: Preferred
Work Experience
- Experience in leading process improvement in a manufacturing environment across a multiple site network: minimum 10 years required
- Practical experience and results delivered utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and other continuous improvement methodologies: required
- Proven track record of driving operational efficiencies and improving financial performance: required
- Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to successfully lead cross functional teams in a dynamic environment; required

Certain states require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer prospective candidates and provide the national pay range for this position which is $165,500 to $264,500 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 24 % of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $205,220.00 -$327,980.00,.00 Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee. Variable for Bands 7+ [This role may also be eligible to participate in the Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program which is awarded annually at management’s discretion.]
