This role follows the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and actively participates in implementation, delivery, and maintenance efforts. The Associate Full Stack Developer focuses on web content delivery, leveraging Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and working alongside the University Communication and Marketing Team (UCM) to enhance Villanova University's digital presence. The Associate Full Stack Developer is instrumental in driving innovation, supporting digital transformation, and embracing change, ensuring that forward-thinking solutions align with the university's evolving needs. Duties and Responsibilities: Front-End Development & User Experience
  • Develop responsive and interactive user interfaces using frameworks such as Bootstrap, Mustache.js, React, or similar.
  • Ensure web applications follow accessibility (WCAG), usability, and best practices for structured content.
  • Work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to enhance the user experience and improve overall readability and performance.
  • Assist in UX/UI design tasks such as wireframing, user flows, and interaction design while maintaining a focus on clean, structured content.
Back-End Development & Systems Integration
  • Assist in developing, migrating, and enhancing web applications, including the Digital Experience Platform and web portal.
  • Support API development and integration to connect systems and services.
  • Work with databases (relational or NoSQL) to store, manage, and retrieve data efficiently.
  • Ensure authentication, authorization, and data security measures are implemented.
Performance Optimization, Security & Process Improvement
  • Optimize web performance metrics, including server-side rendering, caching, and asset management.
  • Learn and apply security best practices, including data protection and access control.
  • Support efforts to improve searchability, discoverability, and accessibility of web content.
  • Help identify and implement workflow optimizations and automation solutions.
  • Assist with SEO-related performance improvements, including optimizing page load times, structured content delivery, and mobile responsiveness.
Collaboration, Research & Innovation
  • Work alongside Full Stack Developers, designers, and stakeholders to support development efforts.
  • Support teams in enhancing web designs, feature development, and troubleshooting.
  • Learn and apply modern web development trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Contribute ideas and improvements to help enhance Villanova University's web presence.
Documentation, Training & Quality Assurance
  • Assist in preparing documentation for development, maintenance, and user adoption.
  • Provide basic training and support to ensure smooth use of web applications.
  • Participate in QA and regression testing to ensure functionality and usability.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing. Assist with the creation of test plans to support these efforts.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience and/or industry certifications will be considered.
Work Experience
  • 0-2 years of experience in full-stack development (including basic UI/UX) or relevant coursework/projects.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
  • Basic experience or coursework in front-end development (e.g., JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks)
  • Familiarity with back-end development concepts and willingness to learn using relevant programming languages.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adaptability to changing needs and requirements in a dynamic work environment.
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Understanding of UI/UX principles and best practices, including collaboration on user interface design.
  • Understanding of APIs and system integration
  • Familiarity with databases such as relational (SQL-based) and NoSQL systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Work Experience
  • Experience with cloud-based applications and services such as AWS, AEM, Boomi, Siteimprove, or web analytics.
  • Experience with web and graphic design, such as working with stakeholders to elicit requirements, create mockups and digital graphics with tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop or similar.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
  • Basic understanding of web content management systems.
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Knowledge of security best practices for web applications.
  • Basic understanding of web content management systems.
