Position Title: HEAVY DUTY MECHANIC

Location: PAWNEE

FLSA Class: NON-EXEMPT

Responsible to: LEAD MECHANIC

Position Summary: VoltaGrid is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to perform routine and complex maintenance on diesel and CNG-powered trucks, trailers, and equipment. This role ensures fleet safety, reliability, and compliance with DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic skills, hands-on mechanical experience, and a safety-first mindset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, battery checks, and fluid services
• Diagnose and repair diesel and CNG engines, emissions systems, and fuel components
• Inspect brake systems, wheel bearings, suspensions, steering, and exhaust for compliance and functionality
• Conduct DOT and Federal annual inspections to ensure regulatory compliance
• Use a variety of tools and equipment including pneumatic wrenches, pressure gauges, and welding equipment
• Utilize diagnostic software, handheld computers, motor analyzers, and chassis charts to troubleshoot malfunctions
• Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and diagnose performance issues
• Replace worn parts such as valves, gears, bearings, and filters
• Repair and service HVAC, hydraulic, electrical, and cooling systems
• Perform CNG tank inspections and follow proper safety procedures during depressurization and repairs
• Measure and verify vehicle emissions meet required standards
• Ensure parts meet factory specifications by checking dimensions and clearances
• Maintain accurate maintenance records in the company system

Other Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or degree preferred
• Minimum 5 years of experience in truck and trailer maintenance
• Previous experience as a diesel mechanic; CNG system experience strongly preferred
• Familiarity with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and related systems
• Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software
• Strong attention to detail and safety procedures
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Must be physically able to lift heavy parts and work in confined or awkward spaces
• CDL is a plus

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly lift up to 75 lbs
• Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and working in various weather conditions
• Must wear required PPE and follow safety guidelines
