Assistant Designer

About Stoneworx

Stoneworx is a design/build company specializing in custom outdoor living spaces, serving primarily the Bucks and Montgomery County areas. We create 2D designs and 3D visuals for our clients based on their vision for the project, coupled with our thoughtful eye for detail and design expertise. Clients can then come to our showroom for a presentation of the design, a 3D visual and material selections for the project.

We’re bringing on a Junior Designer to help us scale that process. This role exists to take pressure off our Lead Designer so he can spend more time on-site with clients and on the creative work that drives our sales — while you own the technical and production side of the design pipeline.

The Role

This is a hands-on, production-focused design role. You’ll be producing 2D and 3D renderings, technical drawings, permits, and base maps — working closely with our Lead Designer and Project Manager to keep jobs moving from concept to construction. You’ll collaborate directly with the team on design reviews and client presentations.

Within your first 90 days, you’ll be:

• Producing designs and 3D renderings independently
• Processing paperwork required for permits
• Producing technical drawings
• Collecting data on site visits to client properties, including measurements and elevations

Requirements

• 1–3 years of experience in design, landscape architecture, or a related construction/design field
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and Realtime 3D software
• Ability to pull permits, read plans, and work with GIS mapping and plot plans — including setbacks, impervious coverage allowances, and variance requirements
• Working knowledge of construction from the ground up: footings, anchors, Simpson ties and hangers, structural lumber allowances
• Familiarity with deck building, roof structures, CMU foundations, and paver patios
• Construction management skills — you understand how a project runs in the field, not just on paper
• Design degree preferred but not required — the right experience matters more than the diploma

Design Responsibilities

• Conduct job site reviews and take accurate field measurements
• Create base plans that reflect the homeowner’s vision and scope of work, incorporating our design expertise
• Develop Realtime 3D perspectives from the base plan for client presentations
• Manage material lists, quantities, and budgetary costs using spreadsheets
• Participate in client design presentations; apply client feedback, revise designs, and reevaluate build costs

• Work in a collaborative team environment
• Accept and apply constructive feedback on design plans and 3D renderings
• Communicate drawing changes clearly and adjust designs in response to on-site conditions
• Be confident making design decisions in the field when needed
• Walk through final designs and costs with the team

What Success Looks Like at 90 Days

• You’re producing 2D plans, 3D renderings and technical drawings, independently for standard projects
• Permit submissions are handled without assitance
• You are taking ownership of design tasks to free up the lead designer for onsite client consultations
• Keep files organized and consistent with company standards
