Clerical Assistant Radiation Oncology

Full-time, Day shift, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM and 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Purpose: Serves as receptionist for the Radiation/Oncology Department, types other material from prepared copy, i.e., requisitions; file reports, authorizations, patient cards, and other related material. Responsibilities:

  • Answers telephone promptly and courteously and Maintains free-flowing accurate communications.
  • Sorts and distributes incoming mail to appropriate department personnel in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Makes copies of reports as requested and forwards to requesting individual, department, or physician.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspects of care to all stages of the life cycle and various stages of health and disease.
  • Performs any other office-related functions that would be appropriate for a secretary in the Department.
  • Files reports, correspondences, and other related material accurately, efficiently, and promptly onto patients' charts.
  • Accurately and efficiently charges patients' accounts by use of the hospital computer system.
  • Performs typing/transcription of patient records and all other departmental documents and correspondence in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
  • Takes and delivers messages and relays calls and messages in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Serves in the capacity of a receptionist in the Department, including receiving patients, visitors, and other guests and making sure they are handled in a timely and proper manner.
  • Maintains the patient's medical records by keeping them neat, current, properly assembled, and stored in the proper place.

Must meet all general employment requirements of the Hospital and in addition:

Education and Formal Training Required : High School Diploma or GED and graduate of a Medical Secretarial Program.

Experience Required : Three years of previous work experience in a medical office setting dealing with physicians/public/patients in the position of a receptionist.

Other qualifications : 1. Thorough knowledge of grammar and punctuation. 2. Ability to use office equipment, including computers, dictation equipment, and other items generally used in the office setting. Ability to type at least 40 wpm. 3. Familiarity and experience with functions of a Radiation Oncology facility. 4. Ability to communicate with physicians, patients, and the general public. 5. Equipment used: typewriter, transcription unit, computer hardware, fax machine. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
