Water Distribution Technician

Position Title: Water Distribution Technician

Downingtown, PA - Full Time

Primary Role: This is an entry-level classification in the Water Distribution classification series. It performs functions under moderate supervision while assisting in the maintenance, monitoring and operation of Downingtown Municipal Water Authority’s water distribution system with a primary emphasis on the maintenance of the system. The work is characterized as semi-skilled and skilled technical work including monitoring, troubleshooting, inspecting and repairing water distribution facilities and equipment.

Key Accountabilities:

• Performs specialized work involving installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, reading and testing of water meters.
• Respond to emergency water main breaks.
• Mark all PA One Call Tickets.
• Performs inspections and completes the necessary forms for the inspections of all water mains, service lines, meter boxes and fire lines.
• Operate company vehicles in a safe manner while keeping said vehicles properly maintained.
• Follows Company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies, and report unsafe conditions.
• Maintains daily logs.
• Correlation of water lines.
• Effective, timely, and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.
• Performs related duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge:

• Able to read gauges and meters. Prepare and maintain accurate paperwork such as records, logs, orders, surveys and routine reports as directed.
• Able to perform accurate mathematical calculations related to this position.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to respond to emergencies
• Capable of lifting and/or carrying 40lbs. or more on a frequent basis. Walking up and down stairs and long distances. Carrying, climbing, and working from ladders. Working in confined areas. Ability to wear a respirator as required.
• Some computer skills; MS Word, MS Excel and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Experience/Certifications:

• The position requires that the operator obtain PADEP Water Operator Class CE, subclasses 1, 7, 8 and 11, within 3 years of hire.
• Experienced operators and operators currently licensed will be given preference.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must possess a valid, active state driver’s license.

Work Environment:

• Employee will be required to work indoor and/or outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.
• Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing an approved respirator as required, as some required work may have potential for exposure to harmful contaminants, environments, noise, etc.
• Overtime work as needed, including on-call assignments.
