Substitute School Nurse

We are looking for qualified Certified Nurses to pick up substitute nurse shifts in the Central Dauphin School District. The schedule is flexible and on a per diem basis. You are able to pick up the jobs when you are available.

Rate of pay: $225 per day, paid through Substitute Teacher Service Inc.

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Substitute School Nurse to join our team. In this vital role, you will provide essential health services within school settings, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff. Your expertise in emergency response, patient assessment, and medical care will help create a supportive environment conducive to learning and development.

Duties

• Deliver immediate first aid and emergency care to students experiencing illness or injury during school hours
• Assess student health conditions using physiology knowledge, vital signs, and medical terminology to determine appropriate action
• Administer medications, injections, and IVs following proper protocols while maintaining accurate medical documentation
• Maintain detailed medical records in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans for students with special needs or chronic conditions
• Monitor infectious disease control measures and implement protocols for infection prevention within the school environment
• Conduct routine health screenings and manage acute care situations in various settings including outpatient clinics or urgent care environments

Requirements

• Valid nursing license with current state certification; experience in school nursing preferred but not required
• Demonstrated proficiency in patient assessment, vital signs measurement, anatomy knowledge, and physiology understanding
• Experience working in Level II trauma centers or hospital medicine settings such as Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or Medical-Surgical units is highly desirable
• Prior experience in emergency room settings or urgent care environments is advantageous
• Strong communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive health information confidentially in accordance with HIPAA standards
• Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing situations within a school setting or outpatient clinic environment
