PGC Environmental Review Specialist - Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program

Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC), is seeking a skilled professionalwith ecological and wildlife management expertise to provide technical guidance and outreach to PGC planners, PennDOT project managers, other government agencies, natural resource groups and private consulting firms. This position will evaluate and monitor projects statewide across a wide variety of business sectors to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to wildlife and wild habitats. Transportation projects submitted by PennDOT will be the primary focus of this position.
This position will support statewide advanced professional wildlife management work involving reviewing and commenting on impacts to threatened, endangered, and special concern birds and mammals and their habitats due to land development activities throughout the commonwealth. Additionally, this position will prepare and conduct trainings on environmental review procedures and regulations as well as represent PGC at meetings, site visits, and conferences.

- Utilizing keyboarding and fine motor skills
- Sedentary work
- Seeing with near, far, and peripheral visual acuity
- Speaking and hearing in-person, telephone, and other remote speech
- Stamina to conduct field investigations in rough terrain, in adverse weather conditions, and in proximity to common outdoor natural hazards
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle with valid driver’s license
Qualifications
- Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in zoology, botany, biology, ecology, natural resources, or environmental science.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- A familiarity with Pennsylvania’s fauna, natural communities, and ecology with an understanding of species habitat needs.
- Ability and flexibility to travel, primarily in Pennsylvania.
- Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program is preferred.
- Familiarity with Pennsylvania resource management agencies and environmental regulations is preferred.
- To be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Pay
$57,900 – $74,200
