Lead Veterinarian (RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE)

Objective

Oversee delivery of high-quality veterinary services for shelter animals and public clinic patients. Provide direct medical care, leadership, protocol development, and mentorship to ensure best practices in shelter medicine, clinical care, and surgery.

Responsibilities

• Perform surgical sterilization of owned and shelter animals, including pediatric and high-quality, high-volume spay-neuter (HQHVSN)
• Perform veterinary medical and surgical procedures, including dentistry, for shelter animals, owned animals, and wildlife
• Administer treatments, vaccinations, medications, and anti-parasite treatments
• Perform diagnostic procedures
• Perform client-requested euthanasia according to established protocols
• Lead daily clinic functions and oversee staff operations
• Develop, implement, and monitor medical protocols for preventative care, treatment, surgery, and disease control
• Maintain medical records and drug use logs to veterinary and sheltering practice standards
• Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and veterinary standards regarding clinic operations, practice of veterinary medicine, drug control, and animal care
• Mentor and coach veterinarians, technicians, externs, and students
• Facilitate in-house training and continuing education opportunities for veterinary staff
• Resolve customer service complaints or conflicts
• Provide scheduling flexibility to cover emergencies
• Act as primary medical contact for internal and external stakeholders

Requirements

• Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
• Current Veterinary License to practice in Pennsylvania (or ability to obtain)
• USDA APHIS Certified
• Minimum 5 years of clinical veterinary experience
• Minimum 2 years in shelter medicine or HQHVSN surgery
• Leadership or supervisory experience
• High-volume spay/neuter surgical skills
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds

Preferences

• Advanced understanding of vaccination schedules and common canine and feline illnesses
• Advanced knowledge of veterinary medications
• Proficiency with recordkeeping software programs
