Utility Technician - Erie, PA

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Utility Technician will continue to have primary meter reading responsibilities, which include accurately and efficiently reading residential and commercial gas meters, working outdoors extensively in all types of weather, walking for long distances, and working in potentially hazardous environments such as dark basements, roof tops or industrial facilities. Upon successful completion of company selected operator qualifications, the employee will rotate between meter reading duties and assisting a fully qualified employee to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in:

. Performing collections

. Installing and removing gas meters, meter sets, and regulators

. Investigating gas service inquiries, such as no gas, leaks, and gas odors

. Using test instruments as required to install, service, and adjust all gas appliances

. Using pressure gauges to test for line leaks and gas detection instruments to locate leaks

. Perform line locating for third party excavations

. Perform construction activities such as leak repairs and pipeline replacements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

. Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record

. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

. Understand and apply mechanical principles as well as possess proficient skills in the use of hand tools

. Basic literacy is required. Ability to read, accurately interpret and analyze written information, and legibly prepare written documentation

. Available to work a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

. Self-motivated, proven track record of good attendance and committed to workplace safety

. Good communication, customer service and computer/data entry skills

. Prior experience operating a mini excavator

. Prior plumbing and heating experience

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This is a position within the Company's collective bargaining unit with a starting rate of pay of $23.78, after 6 months $26.58, and at 1 year $28.41.
