Position Purpose

The Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) and Off Campus Support is a professional within Student Affairs responsible for providing coordination for an active FSL system at the Bloomsburg Campus, ensuring a values-based community experience. The Associate Director coordinates policy enforcement, educational programming, and risk management to assure that all sorority and fraternity members participate in an environment that is physically and emotionally safe, secure and supportive of the educational and social process, while holding expectations that students will be active participants in leadership and governance. Experience is required to manage a multifaceted program with national and local organizations, which has policies and procedures accountable to university, national/international governing bodies, local, state, and federal entities.

The nature of this position requires some evening and weekend hours.

Description of Duties

Fraternity and Sorority Life
  • The Associate Director provides day to day coordination of the Bloomsburg FSL community which includes risk/crisis management, student success programming, and oversight of annual chapter accreditation.
  • Primary responsibilities of the Associate Director include:
    • Advise Pan Hellenic and Interfraternity Council
    • Individual group support and assistance which should include regular meetings with officers.
    • Risk/crisis response & assistance and support for the Office of Student Conduct when needed.
    • Support chapter recruitment and growth by establishing clear guidelines and offering training to all groups.
    • Provide regular programming and training to advisors and groups.
    • Regularly communicate with students, advisors, national organizations and supervisors/administration.
    • Facilitate the annual chapter accreditation process.
  • The Associate Director regularly assesses and reviews the Bloomsburg FSL program and will recommend new policies or updates to current policies that strategically enhance FSL at CU-Bloomsburg.
  • The Associate Director assists with the development, planning, implementation and management of select social and co-curricular programming and major campus events within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • The position regularly interfaces with a complex network of stakeholders including student, alumni, national and international fraternity/sorority staff, volunteer governing bodies of these organizations, parents, police and fire officials, community members, and others. The Associate Director will keep supervisors informed of stakeholder needs and desires.
  • The Associate Director will emphasize the value of community development, high scholastic performance, leadership development, campus involvement, community service and a commitment to diversity.
  • The Associate Director is a mandatory reporter and may assist with emergency situations and any follow-up that impact FSL students.
  • The nature of this position may require some evening and weekend hours.
  • The Associate Director will assist in development and implementation the CU-wide Hazing Education programs.
  • The Associate Director assists with expenditures through the Greek Councils accounts, coordinates fundraising activity and has access to the Greek Life Office budget and foundation accounts with supervisor approval for expenditures.
Off Campus Support
  • Advises the Commuter Student group and has regular meetings.
  • Oversees the commuter lounge and ensure it is meeting student needs.
  • Provide support to off-campus students through the Student of Concern and CARE team processes and referrals.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned, which may include after-hours and weekend responsibilities, to support the mission and goals of the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) department, the Division of Student Affairs, and the University.
Decision Making

Makes professional decisions on day to day FSL operations that are in the best interest of students and the university. Refers complex and emergent concerns to supervisor.

Fiscal Responsibility

The Associate Director assists students with the FSL Council accounts, coordinates fundraising activity, and has access to the FSL Office budget and foundation accounts with supervisor approval for expenditures.

Supervisory Responsibility

Selects, trains and supervises FSL Office student workers.

Minimum Requirements Profile
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a campus based FSL system.
  • 2+ years of experience in student activity related programming.
  • 2+ years of experience with advising groups and facilitating training on leadership development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree
  • 3+ experience in FSL and/or Student Activities
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of compliance with university policies and student code of conduct, with particular attention to proficiency in current trends, best practices and legislation related to sorority and fraternity life.
  • Some experience in promoting academic success and retention.
  • Some experience in supporting student organizations through recruitment and alumni relations.
  • Some experience in programming and training in conflict management, leadership, scholarship and service.
  • Some experience with assessment.
