Steel Mill Electrical Maintenance Technician

Step into the heart of steelmaking.

Picture the start of your 8-hour rotating shift at one of our Mon Valley Works facilities. You gear up, review overnight logs, and head out—sometimes solo, sometimes with a teammate—to keep production humming. A PLC fault pops, a motor drive needs attention, a crane control shows an error. You diagnose, repair, and return systems to service so our operations never miss a beat.

This application covers three Mon Valley plants: Clairton Works, Irvin Works, and Edgar Thomson Works.

What you'll tackle

• Troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair a wide array of electrical and electronic systems using schematics, AC/DC theory, and PLCs.
• Operate and maintain electrical equipment to support continuous operations in a heavy industrial environment.
• Use standard and specialized tools and equipment, including mobile equipment, pendant and overhead cranes, and forklifts.
• Pitch in with operating functions when needed to keep production moving.
• Work independently with minimal supervision or collaborate with other maintenance technicians.
• Perform in diverse plant areas—conditions may be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.

What you bring

• At least 1 year of manufacturing/industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education. Experience may include: industrial electronics; motors and controls; schematics and electrical power; print reading; computers and PLCs; electronics; AC/DC theory; power; test instruments and instrumentation; electrical maintenance; commercial construction and installation.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work rotating 8-hour shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
• Unwavering commitment to safety, including use of PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and boots with metatarsal protection.
• Reliable, punctual attendance and strong self-direction.
• Ability to pass required assessment test(s).
