Job Title: Waste Treatment Engineer
Location: Spring Grove, Pennsylvania
Contractor Work Model: Onsite (NO option for Hybrid or Remote) Overview:
The Waste Treatment Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, operation, and optimization of the mill’s wastewater and solid waste treatment systems. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while improving efficiency and sustainability in waste treatment processes. Responsibilities:
- Manage operation of wastewater treatment systems, clarifiers, aeration basins, and sludge handling equipment.
- Monitor effluent quality and ensure compliance with discharge permits (NPDES, local limits, etc.).
- Analyze treatment performance data and implement process improvements.
- Support mill operations with environmental guidance and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate waste sampling, reporting, and regulatory documentation.
- Lead projects to improve treatment efficiency, reduce waste volumes, and lower operating costs.
- Oversee contractors and vendors supporting treatment operations.
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance in all treatment operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in wastewater or industrial waste treatment (paper/pulp preferred).
- Strong knowledge of biological, chemical, and mechanical treatment processes.
- Familiarity with EPA and state environmental regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and project management abilities.
