Role Overview

The Structural Design Engineer is responsible for the development of airframe structures in a 3D CAD environment. They will perform trade studies, weight optimization, and develop structural joint concepts working alongside stress personnel within an IPT environment. Structural design engineers are responsible for packaging all systems into the airframe, coordinating the routing of systems (such as hydraulics, fuel, and wiring), as well as layout of all fasteners and related hardware. Sound documentation of design decisions, excellent communication skills, and coordination with suppliers is a critical part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Design

• Generate structural design concepts and mature them through release cycle.
• Coordinate design decisions with other members of the IPT, prepare review material, and participate in design reviews and other related baseline design milestone events.
• Perform packaging of equipment and systems into the 3D vehicle design
• Perform fastener selection and layout for release of assemblies and installations
• Support the maturation and release of assemblies and installations within the 3D CAD environment.
• Supplier Coordination
• Perform technical engagement with key suppliers to ensure design integrity, cost, and schedule compliance.
• Support the generation of SOW’s as necessary to enable suppliers to bid and perform work activities related to the structural design IPT goals and objectives.

Immediate Objectives (Next 90 Days)

• Familiarize yourself with XTI design tools and processes
• Begin maturation of structural design concepts in preparation for supplier selection

Requirements

Qualifications

• Must have at least 4000 hours of CAD design experience (preferably NX) (required)
• A least 3 years of previous experience working within an Engineering IPT (Integrated Product Team)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience working in a team environment to accomplish a set goal or objective.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace or equivalent years of experience (required)
