The Department of Religious Studies at Bucknell University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) in Religion and Ethics, to begin August 2026. Teaching load is six courses for the academic year, three per semester. Teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Ethics, Environmental Ethics, and other courses in the field of Religion and Ethics. We welcome candidates with expertise in a range of religious traditions and interdisciplinary areas, such as the environment, health and medicine, secularism, and social justice ethics.

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. by start date.

The Department of Religious Studies at Bucknell serves its majors and minors, as well as a large number of students from across the university who are encountering the academic study of religion for the first time. The ideal candidate will be a teacher-scholar with a demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity and the liberal arts mission. Candidates should submit a cover letter, C.V., statement of teaching philosophy, and a draft syllabus for a 100-level Introduction to Ethics course. Candidates who advance beyond the initial review of applications will be requested to provide names and contact information for three professional references, so that confidential letters of recommendation may be obtained. In addition to the cultural and athletic events offered at the University and in town, the region offers strong schools and medical facilities, and an affordable cost of living. Bucknell is about three hours from Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship in accordance with University policy. At this time, the University is only able to provide H-1B visa sponsorship for candidates currently residing in the U.S. with a valid, transferable visa status (e.g. H-1B, F-1, J-1). Bucknell is not currently in a position to initiate new H-1B petitions for candidates residing abroad
