Summary:
The Disabilities Manager supports the educational goals and the behavioral health and wellness of children, families, and staff through education to staff and families, direct classroom observation and modeling, and coordination with the treatment team, including the family.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide education and resources to staff on a variety of mental health and special education related topics through in-service trainings, the creation of individualized materials and general consultation.
- Provide support in the classrooms through direct observation and general consultation.
- Provide education and resources to families on a variety of mental health and special education related topics through phone calls, in-person visits at CDC and/or in-home visits.
- Implement interventions to enhance the function of the classroom and reinforce the social emotional development of all children.
- Collaborate with all members of the treatment team including CDC Staff (Mental Health Staff/Consultant, Education Manager, County Administrator, etc.) and family members to enhance consistency.
- Collaborate with the LEA (Local Educational Agency – Erie City, IU5 and IU6) to assure IEP services for children in Head Start.
- Obtain necessary consents and releases for external collaboration.
- Refer, monitor, and track developmental delay concern referrals to the LEA.
- Coordinate external behavioral health services and serve as the point of contact for ongoing services.
- Serve as the mental health representative in internal and external treatment team.
- Attend IEP meetings to support child services and advocate for families.
- Assure families are represented with appropriate cultural and/or language services for meetings.
- Participate in Local Interagency Coordinating Council (LICC) Meetings.
- Participate in Kindergarten transition meetings.
- Complete required documentation including entry into ChildPlus to support Head Start Program Information Report (PIR).
- Maintain open communication.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Travel to other Centers within the three counties.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to all CDC policies and procedures as set forth in the policy manual.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, Sociology or a related field.
- At least two years working with children.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Proper attendance is required. Employees are expected to arrive on time, every day, able and available to work.
- May require travel to other centers within the county.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand for long periods throughout the workday with intermittent periods of sitting, walking, and occasional bending, twisting, stooping, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
- Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers and hands to simple movements of feet, legs, and torso as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
- Lifting and carrying of children and/or objects up to 50 pounds.
