Reading Specialist

Wyncote Academy is seeking a dedicated and skilled Reading Specialist to join our team. Wyncote Academy is a special education school serving students in grades 6–12 , providing individualized academic and emotional support in a structured, nurturing environment. This position focuses on small‑group reading instruction for students with learning differences.

Position Overview:
The Reading Specialist will provide targeted literacy intervention to students who require additional support in reading. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about working with adolescents, values data‑driven instruction, and enjoys collaborating within a close‑knit school community.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide small‑group reading intervention to students in grades 6–12
• Address deficits in reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and decoding
• Use diagnostic assessments to identify student needs and monitor progress
• Implement research‑based literacy intervention strategies
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administration
• Support students with IEPs and learning differences
• Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and instructional plans

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Certification in Reading Specialist, Literacy, Special Education, or related field (or ability to obtain)
• Experience working with middle and/or high school students
• Experience with special education populations strongly preferred
• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
• Commitment to supporting students both academically and emotionally
