Position Summary:

The Cost Accountant analyzes costs associated with production, including materials, labor, and overhead, to determine product costs and identify areas for cost reduction. Help develop and maintain cost accounting systems, analyze variances, and prepare reports for management. They cultivate cost-saving measures and interpret financial data to identify possible trends or potential problems as well as help prepare budget forecasts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze manufacturing costs, including direct materials, direct labor, and overhead, to determine product costs.
• Identify and explain variances between standard costs and actual costs, investigating the reasons for discrepancies and proposing solutions.
• Help determine overhead and labor costs, help maintain correct labor coding in the accounting system, ensuring accuracy of cost information.
• Prepare and analyze reports on the cost of goods sold, gross margin, percentage of completion, and other relevant financial metrics.
• Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing cost information and analysis.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs in manufacturing processes.
• Work with various departments, including engineering, production, and purchasing, to gather data and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities related to our manufacturing processes.
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles and company policies.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data and identify trends.
• Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• Experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment a must.
• Certified Management Accountant preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None specifically associated with this position.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
