The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is seeking a passionate and experienced Handwork Teacher to join our faculty for the 2025–2026 school year. This full-time position includes teaching Handwork to students in Grades 1 through 8, integrating traditional textile arts with the developmental needs of each grade and the broader Waldorf curriculum.

Position Overview:

The Grades 1–8 Handwork Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive Handwork curriculum that evolves with the developmental stages of the children. The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, and other fiber arts. The Handwork Teacher works closely with class teachers and specialty subject teachers to support interdisciplinary learning and uphold the school's pedagogical and social values.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate Handwork lessons for Grades 1–8

• Foster a classroom environment that supports focus, perseverance, creativity, and care for craftsmanship

• Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities

• Apply positive discipline strategies and support student engagement

• Maintain and organize Handwork materials and supplies

• Collaborate with colleagues and families to support student learning and well-being

• Participate in regular faculty meetings, festivals, and school events

• Engage in ongoing professional development, including Waldorf pedagogy and DEI work

Qualifications:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both children and adults

• Strong classroom management and effective use of positive discipline strategies

• A passion for Waldorf education, collaboration, and continuous growth

• Ability to self-start and create lesson plans for a range of ages and abilities

• Flexibility and ability to work with a variety of communication and learning styles

• Experience teaching elementary and middle school students

• Eagerness to collaborate deeply with colleagues and school parents

• Commitment to ongoing professional development in both Waldorf pedagogy and the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Waldorf teacher training or willingness to complete training preferred
