Job Type: Full-Time

Shift: 1st and 2nd shift options

Pay: $25/hr or more (depending on experience level)

Reports To: Shop Supervisor / Manufacturing Manager

Position Summary:

• Cannonball Recruiting is hiring a CNC Machine Operator in Reading, PA . This role supports day-to-day CNC machining operations by setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment to produce quality parts to print. Ideal candidates have strong blueprint-reading skills, solid shop math, and experience using precision measuring tools.

Skill Levels: (Based on Experience)

Level 1 – CNC Operator (Entry/Intermediate)

• Set up and run CNC machines with general supervision.
• Demonstrate basic tool room/machining knowledge and safe machine operation.
• Perform basic part inspection and documentation.
• Assist with secondary processes as needed (deburr, polish, basic venting/finishing where applicable).

Level 2 – CNC Operator (Independent)

• Set up and run multiple CNC machines independently .
• Retrieve programs from a network or system and load them to equipment (as applicable).
• Troubleshoot common machining issues and reduce scrap through process control.

Level 3 – CNC Operator / Programmer Support (Advanced)

• Proficient with CNC programming concepts and CAD/CAM-driven workflows.
• Support programming needs when required (editing programs, creating tool paths under direction, assisting with prove-outs).
• Provide advanced machining/process knowledge and mentorship in the shop.

Essential Job Functions (Core Responsibilities)

• Set up and operate CNC machines (mills and/or lathes) to manufacture parts per drawings and work instructions.
• Select and change cutting tools, offsets, and fixtures per job requirements.
• Load raw materials, prepare stock, and verify correct material type/size prior to machining.
• Run CAM-generated programs and follow setup sheets; make minor adjustments as needed (feeds/speeds, offsets).
• Inspect parts during and after production using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height/depth gauges, etc.).
• Maintain part quality by verifying dimensions, documenting results, and identifying nonconforming parts.
• Perform routine machine maintenance (coolant checks, chip removal, basic lubrication, cleanliness).
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications; mark up/redline prints when needed.
• Complete required production paperwork and follow shop documentation procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all safety policies and PPE requirements.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Job Classification: Heavy
• Max Weight Handled: Up to 65 lbs.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 65 lbs. and push/pull up to 40 lbs.
• Occasional sitting, stair climbing, kneeling, and crouching.
• Work environment may include exposure to heat, oils/lubricants, sharp tools, cutting machinery, and greases.
• Visual requirements may include near/far vision, depth perception, and spatial awareness.

PPE (Required as applicable): Safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots/shoes, gloves, face shield (and other PPE as required by site).
