Industrial Coatings Application Support Engineer

As an on-site partner to our Industrial Coatings customers, you’ll be the go-to expert who keeps their lines running smoothly and to spec. Reporting to the Technical Service Manager and working primarily on-site in York, PA, you’ll blend hands-on troubleshooting with process optimization to deliver outstanding results for our customers and for PPG.

A day in your role

• Walk the production floor, talk with operators, and quickly interpret customer concerns. Collect data, pinpoint root causes, and resolve issues efficiently—then document everything with a clear daily trip report.
• Monitor application processes, guide the mix-room, and provide hands-on support to meet quality and performance targets.
• Coordinate with PPG Technical teams and Account Management to align site activity, share insights, and promote EH&S best practices.
• Support commercialization of new products and opportunities—run trials, optimize processes, test, troubleshoot, and ensure successful launches.
• Contribute to Continuous Improvement efforts and problem-resolution meetings with Operations and Management.
• Practice safe work behaviors and use your mechanical aptitude to collaborate effectively with technical, production, and non-technical personnel.

What you bring

• HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 5+ years in electrocoat, wet paint, powder coating, electrostatic spray, or comparable industrial/manufacturing coatings experience.
• Strong background in paint mixing and application is ideal.
• Solid computer proficiency and meticulous reporting skills.
• Proven troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer-facing communication abilities.
• Comfort working independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
• Willingness for limited regional travel to additional customer sites.

Training, location, and reporting

Specialized training will be provided to qualified candidates. This position reports to the Technical Service Manager and is primarily on-site in York, PA, with occasional regional travel.
