VP of Finance

A client of ours is looking for a VP of Finance for a contract to full-time role. This role will provide senior-level financial leadership during a transition period while supporting core financial operations, strategic planning, and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who can quickly step in, stabilize financial operations, and partner with leadership on budget oversight and forecasting.

Responsibilities of VP of Finance

• Lead and oversee budgeting and forecasting activities, including management of an operating budget of approximately $1.3B
• Partner closely with executive leadership to provide financial insights, variance analysis, and strategic recommendations
• Support and as needed, assist with AFCR quarterly filings and related financial reporting requirements
• Oversee and mentor a small finance team (2–3 direct reports), ensuring accuracy, accountability, and continuity
• Evaluate existing financial processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and controls
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor during the interim period while a permanent leader is identified

Skills/Qualifications of VP of Finance

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required; CPA, MBA, or other advanced degree preferred
• Senior-level finance leadership experience (VP, Executive Director, or equivalent), with proven expertise in large-scale budget management, forecasting, and financial planning, including responsibility for operating budgets of approximately $1.3B or more
• Experience within non-profit, school district, higher education, or university environments is a plus, though not required
• Open to candidates from the for-profit sector, particularly those with diverse industry exposure such as retail, services, or multi-site organizations; preference for candidates without exclusively long-term manufacturing backgrounds
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, compliance, and governance, including the ability to assist with AFCR quarterly filings as needed
• Proven people leader with experience overseeing and developing small finance teams (2–3 direct reports)
• Hands-on, results-oriented leader capable of quickly assessing financial operations, stabilizing processes, and leading effectively during a transitional period
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams
