For over 60 years, CareLink Community Support Services has been dedicated to helping people with disabilities to live in the community with dignity and independence. Our rehabilitation services and professional staff provide the support that people with serious mental illness, physical disabilities and other developmental challenges need to be active, productive members of their communities.
Payrate: $18.25 hourly
Schedule: 1st Shift , Monday through Friday , 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Job Summary
The Activities Coordinator will develop and implement creative activities for Carelink’s residents, in accordance with each resident’s comprehensive assessment, as well as the interests and physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident. The activities program should provide stimulation or solace; promote physical, cognitive and/or emotional health and enhance, to the extent practical, each resident’s physical and mental status, and promote each resident’s self-respect by providing activities that support self-expression and choice. The Activities Coordinator must be devoted and compassionate about their chosen career and have a highly enthusiastic personality, as well as have experience supporting individuals living with behavioral and mental health diagnosis.
Essential Functions
- Conducts and/or assists with assignments and assigned activity groups.
- Organizes one-to-one activities utilizing interpersonal needs to meet resident’s needs.
- Creates, plans and posts in advance group activities, recreational programs, special entertainment and special holiday events.
- Leads and participates in individual and group activities suited to meet the needs of the individual patients.
- Provides input and assistance with activity planning.
- Escorts residents to and from activities.
- Reports any changes in patient conduct or physical condition to the patient’s nurse.
- Evaluates and records behavior, participation and progress of patients in groups and/or 1:1.
- Maintains necessary supply materials and equipment.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
Other Functions
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
- Performs job within framework of agency, site, and professional standards.
- Participates in staff meetings and training programs.
- Attends and participates in agency events.
- Adheres to agency/site policies and procedures including HIPAA requirements.
- Cooperates and coordinates with Regional Director on all operational issues.
- Projects a positive attitude and image to staff, participants, family members, and outside contacts.
- Uses appropriate communication channels.
- Completes assignments independently and within specified time frames.
- Participates in achievement of agency objectives, goals, and mission.
- Displays motivation and interest in working creatively with people who have mental illness/disabilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to make sound judgements regarding the welfare of people served.
- Displays ability to take direction.
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic principles and methods of clinical psychology and psychiatric rehabilitation.
- Follows agency dress code.
- Adheres to supervisor's requests.
- Cooperates with other staff and exhibit positive attitude toward position and agency.
- Contributes to the growth and development of services.
- Shows initiative and demonstrate good judgement.
- Follows instructions accurately and thoroughly.
- Works as scheduled to assure coverage.
- Performs job in a safe manner.
- Reports/addresses safety concerns in a timely manner
Qualifications
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience: Must have at least 1 year experience in conducting therapeutic group activities
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Required: Valid Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in a mental health or rehabilitation setting.
- Experience in activity/creative clinical strategies (art and music) preferred but not required.
- Ability to relate positively and favorably to residents, families, and other employees.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Strong collaborating skills, and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments.
- Ability to exercise judgment.
