Duties and Responsibilities:

The Companion Support Staff is responsible for providing direct support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in both home and community settings, in accordance with Helping Hands' policies and procedures.

• Companion Support : Provide one-on-one support to individuals with intellectual disabilities, assisting them in the achievement of personal goals and outcomes.
• Community Life Plan Implementation : Assist in the implementation of each individual’s Community Life Plan, ensuring services and activities are consistent with their personal preferences and goals.
• Recreational and Community Outings : Accompany individuals on recreational, social, and community outings, providing guidance and support as needed.
• Engagement in Leisure Activities : Facilitate and engage individuals in a variety of leisure activities such as arts, crafts, games, and other meaningful interactions in the home setting.
• Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) : Provide general assistance to individuals in their home and/or community setting to implement activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, and housekeeping.
• Documentation : Complete accurate and timely documentation related to client interactions, progress, and activities in accordance with company policies.
• Communication and Reporting : Maintain open lines of communication with supervisory staff, addressing individual concerns, reporting progress, and attending staff meetings (virtual and/or in-person) as required.
• Crisis Response : Follow supervisor instructions in the event of a crisis, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in care.
• Model Professionalism : Serve as a role model by demonstrating appropriate language, dress, and behavior in line with the professional standards expected by Helping Hands.
• Training and Development : Complete mandatory annual training relevant to Human Services (training may be completed online or virtually).
• Additional Duties : Assume additional responsibilities as required by supervisory staff.

Transportation:

• Transport individuals in a personal vehicle or agency vehicle, as needed, in accordance with established safety guidelines.
• Ensure realistic and flexible time management when transporting individuals—avoid imposing unrealistic time constraints.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and insured personal vehicle.
• Must have the ability to meet transportation requirements as outlined in the job duties.
• Must successfully complete any additional training as required.
