Registered Charge Nurse - Full Time Nights

12 Hour Night Shift Description:
Charge Nurse Principal ResponsibilitiesParticipates with unit leadership in development and improvement of departmental processes.Facilitates patient flow both in and out of the Emergency Department as well as enhances teamwork by providing guidance and support to all staff.Takes responsibility for Outcomes Management, ensures that patient care is optimal and timely and that patient outcomes are within defined parameters.Participates with unit leadership in development of Service Line initiatives and guiding staff in succesfully completing process change.Exhibits positive service excellence skills to patients, visitors and colleagues by greeting others in a friendly manner, keeping them informed about progress, delays and changes..Demonstrates stewardship by thoughtful and responsible use of resources including maintaining a clean and hospitable environment, starting work on time, maintaining good attendance and displaying a conscientious attitude towards costs, supplies and departmental finances.Actively participates in Shared Governance activities through direct participation on committees, counsels or work groups. Facilitates unit-based meetings.Maintains awareness of department operations on all shifts/days. Reviews minutes and obtains reports to ensure accurate knowledge. Accepts accountabiliity for staying informed about changes in the unit, in the service line and the organization.
Team and Professional Leadership
- Serves as a resource and leader by providing guidance and direction to staff through rounding and frequent interactions with all members of the team.
- Actively coaches staff as needed.
- Oversees the delegation of patient assignments and clinical care at the unit level, in partnership with the PCM/DON.
- Promotes a professional practice environment guided by organizational and professional standards
- Participates with unit leadership in development, implementation and assessment of unit policies and procedures. Coaches staff as needed to ensure compliance.
- Contributes to staff performance management process by providing observation and documentation to PCM/DON.
- Contributes to the creation of a compassionate and caring environment for patients, families and colleagues through displays of kindness and active listening. Recognizes and appreciates that each Colleague's work is valuable and contributes to the success of our Mission.
- Demonstrates effective teamwork by interacting in a positive manner with colleagues and creating a collaborative work environment. Initiates open communication and convesys positive intent; offers assistance.
- Demonstrates excellence in daily work; is a Role Model for staff.
- Collaborates with nursing colleagues and other healthcare personnel to implement interventions identified in the plan of care.
- Documents coordination of the plan of care, nursing interventions, and any modifications or changes to the plan.
- Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Ensures that the evaluation is systematic and ongoing.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the planned interventions in relation to patient responses and attainment of outcomes.
- Uses ongoing assessment to revise the diagnoses, outcomes, plan and implementation strategies as indicated.
- Documents the results of the evaluation.
- Ensures efficient patient flow both in and out of the unit.
- Maintains expertise in nursing practice in accordance with the standards of the Nurse Practice Act. Obtains/maintains professional certification.
- Incorporates ethical prinicples in all areas of practice.
- Participates constructively in PI activities in the department.
- Can discuss performance improvement activities for the department.
- Contributes ideas for cost reductions, improved efficiency and outcomes without sacrificing quality.
- Maintains awareness of cost containment and waste reduction practices.
- Maintains and uses material, supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
- Encourages and contributes innovative ideas and ways of doing things that increase efficiencies by challenging oneself and others to not accept the status quo.
- Recommends changes to policies, procedures and environment to enhance everyone's ability to provide optimum service to all patients, visitors and employees.
- Demonstrates understanding of PDSA (plan, do, study, act.) process and Just Culture.
- Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements for assigned unit.
