Art Camp Instructor

All clearances will be required prior to participating. *Must be 18 or older. Basic art skills required. Must be able to stand for extended periods. Will be required to supervise outdoor play and engage with campers!
Job Description (Camp Teacher):
Engage Art Studio teachers are expected to do any of the following: teach art classes, work birthday parties, art workshops, artsy afternoon/open studio, work artisan festivals, and/or summer camp. Teachers are expected to conduct the events listed above in a professional way and give clear and concise directions that are digestible for the audience’s ages and skill level. Teachers are required to help students complete projects being worked on, be done with classes in a timely manner, and come up with lesson plans/ideas for projects. Project ideas must reflect the mediums available for use in each class. General studio work such as cleaning, material prep, running the kiln, stocking supplies, as well as being able to answer customer questions via email, social media, or in person, is also required.
Physical Limitations:
Staff must be able to:
- Stand for at least four hours at a time
- Lift heavy items for class preparation and cleaning (50 pounds)
Job Expectations:
- Treat all Engage students, parents, fellow employees, and visitors with respect. - Keep a calm level head when conducting class as well as in the presence of customers, students, or parents. Allow students to enjoy the work they are creating. Every student has a different learning style. Getting to know how your students work best will allow for an easier time teaching class.
- Keep a clean social media presence. Failure to keep a relatively PG public social media presence may result in disciplinary action.
- Clean up any mess made by you or on your behalf. This includes any mess created during preparation for a project and any mess made during and after a project is completed. This includes any mess made gathering supplies from the back supply area. Any palettes, brushes, water bowls, etc. must be washed after use. Place supplies back into the correct area, even if they were not found there before.
- Be involved in studio cleaning and maintenance as needed
- Help fellow teachers (ie. help clean up, prep projects, teach class, etc.)
- Refill/restock supplies. This includes but is not limited to refilling paints and glazes, canvases, watercolor and drawing paper, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc. If supplies are low, alert the manager or supervisor.
- Choose attire that is appropriate for conducting class. Working in an art studio, there is always the possibility of getting your clothes stained. Wear clothes that you do not mind getting paint on. A plain t-shirt is best. Any shorts worn must cover the bottom completely.
- Monitor outdoor fun time and coordinate games with campers.
- Be able to prioritize tasks in a constantly changing set of responsibilities (no two days are the same)
- Clean or check the to-do list during free time.
- Discuss with the supervisor or manager any issues you may be having with tasks, other employees, etc.
- Ability to work with cats in studio (2 indoor/outdoor cat residents)
- Work at least one weekend per month (can be any combination of dates ie. two Saturdays, two Sundays, one of each)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
