The Controller will be located on-site at the Double Tree in Fairfield, NJ and will be responsible for preparing and reviewing financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for the property.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance to all applicable laws and regulations pertaining to accounting, finance, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Works closely with the General Manager to maximize return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable; process and code invoices in M3.
  • Monitors and confirms financial conditions by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Monitors and approves cash flow through all hotel cashiers.
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; and recommending plans.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years* of detailed experience and advanced knowledge with preparing individual, corporate, partnership returns, and general accepted accounting practices.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present financial reports to executive leadership and ownership

LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to learn new technology
  • Ability to work with deadlines and take a creative approach to problem resolution
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to read and speak English and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Detail oriented with outstanding organizational and communication skills.

REASONING ABILITY
