Position Overview
The Designer/Estimator will play a central role in transforming client ideas and site requirements into buildable, cost-effective solutions. This position balances creativity, technical accuracy, and financial precision , ensuring that every design is both innovative and feasible.
You’ll work on a wide range of projects, from residential hardscape and landscape designs to commercial environmental site work , preparing designs, takeoffs, and estimates that guide our crews and inspire our clients.
Key Responsibilities Design & Planning
- Develop and refine residential and commercial landscape/hardscape designs that meet client needs, site conditions, and budgets.
- Create design concepts and layouts using AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar tools .
- Provide solutions for stormwater management, wetlands, erosion control, and other environmental projects in collaboration with engineers and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure all designs are practical, constructible, and align with company capabilities.
- Prepare visual presentations and supporting materials for client proposals.
Estimating & Takeoffs
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment across multiple divisions.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for landscape installs, hardscapes, planting, stormwater, and environmental projects .
- Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to secure up-to-date pricing.
- Review bid packages and RFPs to ensure all requirements are covered in proposals.
- Provide value engineering options to balance design vision with budget constraints.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Attend site visits to gather data, take measurements, and assess conditions.
- Participate in client meetings, assisting with design presentations and proposal discussions.
- Work closely with project managers, supervisors, and ownership to transition projects from design/estimate to production.
- Serve as a resource for field teams, ensuring they understand plans, materials, and scopes of work.
Qualifications
- Experience in landscape design, environmental planning, estimating, or construction management .
- Strong knowledge of landscape/hardscape materials, methods, and best practices.
- Familiarity with stormwater management, erosion control, wetlands, and other environmental projects preferred.
- Proficiency in design and estimating tools (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Aspire, or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret site plans, grading plans, and construction documents.
- Excellent math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
