Early Education Mentor – Luthercare for Kids

As a Mentor with Luthercare for Kids, you are helping to ensure young children who attend home-based childcare programs have access to high-quality care and education. Our Mentors work closely to assist and guide at-home providers in the process of opening and operating a state-licensed Family and/or Group Childcare Home.

We’re currently seeking a Mentor for our Luthercare for Kids/Systems Aligned in Learning (SAIL) collaborative program, serving Lancaster and Lebanon Counties. This is a non-exempt-level full time position with a hybrid-remote work schedule. The shift for this position would be 8:30-4:30 pm.

WHAT YOU DO:

As a Mentor with Luthercare for Kids, you’re an integral part of helping local children who attend state-licensed Family/Group Childcare Programs receive a firm foundation for their academic and social growth. You’ll do this in several ways, which include: 

1. Provide on-site and virtual technical help to Family/Group Childcare Program Providers to ensure they are ready for inspections and able to obtain and maintain their DHS Certificate of Compliance.
2. Model best practices for educationally-appropriate activities that help children learn and grow – academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.
3. Share detailed knowledge of DHS and STARS regulations, as well as the local rules and regulations needed to operate a Family/Group Childcare Program.
4. Assist with lesson plans, room arrangements, early literacy support, and nutrition and physical fitness curriculum. Utilize the resource vehicle to distribute educational materials that Providers can borrow to enhance their programs.
5. Set up CPR, first aid/fire safety classes, and assist with finding appropriate ongoing professional development.
6. Develop and maintain a working relationship with DHS Certification Staff, STARS Staff, the Library System of Lancaster County Staff, and the ELRC.
7. Exhibit a variety of administrative and leadership skills; work as a liaison between local school districts and Providers on kindergarten readiness initiatives and other partnership opportunities; prepare and present data and information about the work the being done through SAIL.
8. Work as teacher or other support staff in Luthercare for Kids Early Learning Centers as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

1. Associates degree in Early Childhood Education (Bachelor’s degree preferred) OR,
2. An education related degree with either a minimum of a PA Director’s credential or 15 Early Childhood Education credits in a related field is required.
3. Current PA Driver’s License.
4. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Early Childhood Education field.
5. Two (2) years of experience working with the regulations that govern early child care and education.
6. Effective computer skills with various pertinent software programs.
7. Experience in grant processes.
8. Bilingual preferred; at a minimum, the ability to understand and to make oneself understood to all Spanish speaking individuals

Luthercare for Kids is part of Luthercare, a Lutheran social ministry organization with a long history of providing senior care services, early learning programs, and childcare services in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties. Luthercare for Kids has two centers located in Reamstown, and Annville.
